Hide Oil
Hide Oil
Hide Oil is a medium-weight swabbing oil formulated from a blend of natural and synthetic oils and polymers, with added antioxidants for long-term stability. It is used after tanning with Pickle Tan A-21 to properly oil and finish hides and skins.
This oil is also included in our Tan-a-Hide DIY tanning kit.
Hide Oil produces a soft, supple, and stretchy leather while permanently fixing to the leather fibers. Unlike lighter oils, Hide Oil will not wash out or migrate over time, allowing hides and skins to be easily rehydrated when needed. This makes it an excellent choice for taxidermy tanning applications where long-term stability and flexibility are critical.
Antioxidants are added to prevent oxidation, ensuring excellent shelf life and consistent performance. Hide Oil leaves leather with a clean, non-oily feel and contains no foul odors. It is recommended for use on deer, antelope, caribou, elk, bison, and other similar large animal hides.
